Civic Engagement

“At the centre of our challenge as an enterprise is a fundamental obligation to innovate and operate as a community of leaders—aligned around a set of values: humanity, humility, integrity and excellence. More than mere words, these beliefs stand at the foundation of all we pursue—in relationships with stakeholders, as stewards of the company’s mission, and as engaged citizens committed to sharing strength in our global community.”
Timberland is a big company. Big enough that our actions impact people across time zones not to mention oceans. It’s also a community of several thousand creative, dedicated and hardworking people. We’ve spent the last three decades crafting rugged boots, shoes, clothing and gear that exceed expectations. But there’s a lot more to Timberland than a logo on a jacket and a pair of waterproof boots.
At our core is a belief in the power of people to transform their communities and make a difference in the world. We know that how we do business has a direct effect on the communities where we live and work. We have an opportunity to make it better. We would be foolish not to try.
We’re driven by a promise to be accountable for everything we do. From the way our products are produced to the way the buildings where we work are designed; from service events to the quality of life of our global workforce; we aspire to lead by example, and to add value to the lives that we touch.
It might seem like connecting boots and clothes with the concept of global community is a stretch, but by making sure that those same boots and clothes are designed, produced, shipped and sold in a way that positively impacts the world, we’re making the global community better. And if we engage with our communities in service, our positive impact is only multiplied.
We share a deep belief that people united in service can change the world. We invite you to join us.
Hammers pounding. Shovels scraping. Paint brushes gliding. The symphony of serving. In over 35 countries around the world, employees use their Path of Service™ program benefit of 40 hours of annual paid time off to work on service projects in their communities. Through their vision and hard work, real change is taking root.
From the township of Kliptown, South Africa where youth engage in art and cultural education... to Santiago, Dominican Republic where the reach of rural medicine is expanding... to the Seacoast of New England where a 30 mile bike trail is being created to encourage alternative transportation... to the Mediterranean Sea where physically challenged adults and youth partner to develop self esteem through the freedom of sailing…the global ethic of service is thriving.
Playgrounds. Community gardens. Habitat for Humanity homes. Each city has different priorities, but share one thing in common: dedicated individuals who lend time and skills to create transformational, suitable change. By teaming up with local residents and stakeholders, we help to solve critical problems and enhance the environment and community in which we live and work.
