Our Code of Conduct has been translated into more than 20 languages and is provided to factories in local languages. Language should never be a barrier to understanding.

Ensuring basic rights in the workplace is a big, challenging job. Especially with 175,000 workers in 35 countries worldwide. We proudly own our factory in the Dominican Republic, and it’s become a model of both performance and values. We do not own the other 290+ factories that manufacture Timberland® products and have a less direct influence on governance. So, we work hard to choose business partners who share our beliefs. With a foundation of similar values, we dedicate a lot of effort to help ensure these factories meet the standards listed in our Code of Conduct.

Human AssessmentsFor the past decade we have monitored our business partners, agents, licensees and distributors annually to make sure these principles are upheld. In addition to monitoring worker rights and workplace conditions, our assessment process reviews environmental protection.

This evaluation also includes measuring the factories’ engagement in their communities – putting in action our belief that business can be a positive force for society. That commerce and justice can, and should, go hand in hand.

Fair. Safe. Non-discriminatory.
Through our Code of Conduct program, we respect and promote the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Labor Organization (ILO) conventions that establish international human and labor rights, throughout our supply chain. We even made our Code of Conduct a legal requirement of our partnership agreements, compelling our vendors, tanneries and major suppliers to “Make it better” for all workers, by offering employment that…

…is voluntary and free of harassment and abuse,

…prohibits child labor, and

…meets standards for free association, labor hours, compensation, health and safety, and environmental compliance.
